Verdun Oaks

The Woodlands Trust is trying to track down "Verdun Oaks". At the end of this famous WW1 battle, acorns were gathered from the battlefield and taken to England where they were planted as a tribute the the fallen. A number of them have been identified, and a new generation of acorns is being gathered, to carry the tribute down more decades. I wonder if anybody has ever heard of such trees being planted in our area (there were also chestnuts), so we can try to identify them and make a link in the chain of history?
