The royal oak canning Town.

I see on the news at lunchtime that the royal oak pub in canning town has  achieved listed status. Meaning it will always be protected  from developers.

I have some fond memories of  it.

The BBC London News page indicates that it is the Royal Oak Bethnal Green near Columbia Market which was used as the backdrop in "Goodnight Sweetheart"

It is the one on the corner in Columbia road market , I took some photos from the road next to it looking up towards the pub and the shops opposite quite a few years ago now when I ws doing my family history I found out that my nan lived above one of the shops when she was a little girl , on the 1881 census I think and found out then about Goodnight sweetheart being filmed there .
