NEW BOOK: The Pedlar Palmer Story
« on: 28 October, 2009, 08:12:18 AM »
NEW BOOK: Pedlar Pamer, born in Canning Town in 1876, was a World Champion Bantamweight boxer. His very colouful life strory has just been published by Jason McKay, a descendant of Pedlar. The book, ‘Box O’ Tricks – The Pedlar Palmer Story’ has over 600 pages and includes a number of photographs and is available only from the author who can be contacted via

‘Pedlar’s story may appear to be one of formulaic fare; the hackneyed plot of rags to riches and the inevitable slide back to destitution set against an austere Victorian London backdrop, but there is nothing trite about this factual chronicle of a long-lost and so hastily expunged English sporting hero.
It is an account of extreme poverty and obscene wealth.  It is a revelation of recurrent waves of ecstasy and sadness, of perceived invincibility and the shock of defeat, and of widespread adulation and personal corruption.

This is the true story of the rise and fall of the East End’s first ever sporting celebrity and an unsung English boxing legend.  It is lifted by romance, and blackened by a senseless killing.  Its telling is long overdue.’
