Summers/Templeman
« on: 01 May, 2009, 10:23:13 PM »
Hi I am a new member who has found this site very interesting, although I moved out in the 90's I still have family in Stratford & am amazed by all the changes.
I was born in 1961 & lived in Bridge Road, Stratford until the 70's when we moved to Byford Close off Vicarage Lane. I went to Manor Road & Sarah Bonnell Schools.
In Bridge Road we lived next door to the Albion & before my parents marriage in 1953 my grandparents (George & Lil Templeman) used to run a Greengrocers along from there, which I can only remember as a garage.
I am doing my family history but am lucky that my mum is still alive, as are 2 of her older siblings, & 2 of her Aunts (97 & 88), which has been a great help.
My maternal uncles worked in the markets, my father & his father worked in the old Covent Garden.
My great, great grandmother & one of her daughters drowned on the Princess Alice Disaster in 1878.

Not to my knowledge.

My father was Ernest & his father Ernest. Unfortunately my father was illegitimate & estranged from his fathers family although I have now made some contact with some members there are no traces of any Alfreds as yet.

My grandfather was born in Bethnal Green, as was his father William. Do you know of any Summers from this area as I would love to hear of any connections.

Hello,

Have not been on the Newham Story for a couple of years, and just noticed your post. You lived a couple of doors from me. I lived a 22 Bridge Road from 1952 to the mid-60s.

I'm particularly interested, because I've found that I wasn't that observant and didn't notice some some of the houses along my bit! I always thought there was next door (23) then Clemens the builders, then the Albion, so it seems I missed your house, and only realised when I went over some old Ordance Survey maps, census, and street directories.

Best wishes,

Eddie
