the history of fyfields nr chipping ongar
« on: 16 October, 2012, 10:06:50 AM »
HAVING READ THE COMMENTS OF MANY OF YOU , WHO LIKE MYSELF SPENT SOME TIME AT FYFIELDS  NEAR CHIPPING ONGAR I TOO SPENT SOME TIME THERE, IN  1943/4 IM NOT SURE HOW LONG I WAS THERE,  SO I DECIDED TO E-MAIL THE
ARCHIVE AND LOCAL STUDIESLIBRARY@NEWHAM.GOV.UK,

FOR ME THE INFORMATION WAS THAT THE ADMISSION  REGISTRATION FOR BOYS ENDED IN 1919, AND FOR GIRLS ENDED IN1956,
SO MY TIME THERE  SEEMS HAZY AND I CAN ONLY GUESS ,
INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH I FOUND THAT WHEN  FYFIELDS WAS ORIGINALLY OPENED IN 1885 IT  BECAME A TRUANT AND INDUSTRIAL SCHOOL,  AND IN 1925 WAS CONVERTED INTO AN OPEN AIR SCHOOL FOR DELICATE CHILDREN, AND IT CLOSED IN 1956,
LIKE MANY OF YOU I  TOO WAS COURIOUS  TRYING TO FIND SOME THING OF MY PAST AS IN 1943/4 AS A SEVEN YEAR OLD CHILD I WAS CONFUSED AND BEWILDERD AS TO WHERE I WAS  AND WHAT WAS I DOING THERE, AND WANTED TO KNOW MORE,
NOW OF COURSE ALL HAS BECOME CLEAR , BUT IT WAS NICE TO THINK THAT FOR MANY OF US FOR WHAT EVER THE REASON HAD SOME THING IN COMMON  AND THAT WE ALL COME FROM THE NEWHAM AREA,
