Thank you Ken, yes mum has lots of  wonderful stories of her time spent nursing. She eventually became a District Nurse in East Ham, at first riding round on a bike and later she drove a dark blue Morris Minor like Gladys Emmanuel in Open all Hours. In 1983 she met the Queen when the Queen opened the new St Bartholomews Centre in the Barking Road. The doctors that mum worked with had transferred there from Central Park. She still hears from the families of some of her old patients.

I think I've mentioned it on here before that my mum started her nurses training at The Seamans Hospital in Alnwick Road E16 in 1947. She remembers many cases of men falling in the Dock and being brought in to have their stomachs pumped!

I agree with Doug that it does seem a shame that people are reading the forum but not contributing. A few weeks ago I had a message via the forum from a gentleman who wrote a very interesting account about his memories growing up in East Ham. I advised him to post under the memories section and also new members as we would all welcome him and would be pleased to read his memories. I heard from him again a few days ago to say that his profile had been successfully updated so I'm hoping he will soon be posting.
As Doug said we both went to Stratford Library for interviews to become Moderators. After a while I rang the office and was told a decision had been made to use Moderators outside the Forum.
I have like Doug have been enjoying the various other sites such as Memories of East Ham, Memories of Manor Park and East Ham and Newham History, all on Facebook and have come across Doug, Mick, Ron, Harry and Mark on them. Ken has advised me in the past on how to post photos on here and I must really try to do it as I'm sure it would make our posts much more interesting to whoever is reading them. Perhaps then we will attract some new members and the old ones might make their way back.

Hi Harry
I have reported this thread to the Admin, also several others that are written in Russian from last year. Hopefully they will remove them.

Hi Ken, it's a shame that photos still can't be viewed on here as I found a good one of him which I printed on here in 2015.

Happy New Year Bob. I think possibly those posts were mistakenly put in the wrong section. I know it has happened in the past. I had hoped that some members who stopped posting might see the greeting and respond. Never mind perhaps we shall get some new input in the coming months. If only we could all print photos I'm sure there would be more interest.
Best wishes to you

Thank you Mick, that's a lovely photo. Isn't it nice to see the blinds pulled down to shade the shop windows. Such a lot going on in that photo.

That's right Doug, it was very long and narrow and was between the greengrocers and Williams Galleries. I can't remember what it was before a card shop but I agree it was probably halved with the greengrocers. We had a tiny room at the back where we kept some stock and was also our tea room. I loved working in there, the staff were so friendly.

I had a Saturday job in a small card shop called Newham Cards in the 1960's Mick.It was opposite C&A and I think the number was 185 High St North. So it sounds like that could have been Wilson and Whitworth. I wonder if Doug would know.

Hello Mick
I have only just seen this photo that you posted in November. Am I right in assuming the stationery shop is Wilson and Whitworth. The first blind is showing Wilson but the other blind isn't open. I believe this shop was opposite East Ham Station. Lovely photo.

Mick, on the 17th April 2017 I posted a photo on the Memories of East Ham website of a photographers shop called Glass and Sons, 387 Barking Road,East Ham. I checked on Google Earth and it was showing as Paddy Power in 2015. I'm not sure of the date of the photo but I was wondering if maybe Lew Rose took over from Glass and Sons. Unfortunately I still can't post photos on here at the moment.

Hi Ed
I think I remember someone mentioning that Lew Rose, the tailor was in the Barking Road opposite the Town Hall. Also I think Radio Rentals was in High Street North. Hopefully Doug will know as he's the expert on shops in East Ham.
Hope all is well with you.

Doug, I must admit I wondered the same. I haven't been able to find any information on Joslins on the internet as to the dates they were in East Ham. I'll keep on trying though.
