Did you race in those days?
« on: 04 October, 2017, 04:41:40 PM »

Did anyone race in cycle speedway racing in the 'fifties? Just searched for a name on the site, and a few familiar names cropped up as Cycle Speedway racers. We certainly had a few teams in our [now] Newham area! I recognise a name who became a very well known cycle shop trader!

I did,
but although I lived in Newham ,me and three mates joined Hawbush Hammers in about 1965 which was  at the junction of Barley lane and Eastern avenue Goodmayes.every other Sunday we used to ride there on our track bikes.
I had friends who rode for Newham Hammers whose track was in Little Ilford park ,where the A406 is now and also friends who rode for Plaistow Pirates at the Ferndale.
The track at the corner of Prince Regents Lane wasn't there in those days.
